    • Meet Bishop McManus
      Our Shepherd

St. John Paul II named Bishop McManus the Fifth Bishop of Worcester. He was installed on May 14, 2004. In 2008, he completed his term as the Chairperson of the Committee on Education for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He has also served on the USCCB Doctrine Committee from 2001 until 2024, which issued the 6th edition of the national standards known as the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare. Locally, he made promotion of vocations to the priesthood a priority since his installation as Bishop; initiated the annual Celebrate Priesthood gala to recognize the gift of the priesthood and to increase funding for priests retirement, and has firmly continued the implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Youth and Young Adults, responding to needs of victims and protection of our youth.

It’s finally about to happen. He’s scheduled to be ordained a priest on June 13 at St. Paul Cathedral.

Bishop Announces Changes in North Worcester Parishes
...A parish must be able to provide vibrant liturgical life, faith formation, pastoral outreach, and opportunities for fellowship and service. These elements help foster a living and active community of faith that can effectively invite others into a relationship with Christ and carry forward the Church’s mission of evangelization. The plan being announced today seeks to strengthen parish life in North Worcester so that our parishes may more effectively serve the needs of today and of the foreseeable future....
