On Saturday, June 18, 2022, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, Bishop of Worcester, will ordain seven men to the priesthood at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Worcester. The Mass will begin at 10:00 am and is open to the public. It will be livestreamed on the diocesan website, worcesterdiocese.org and can be seen live on the following cable access stations: WCCA-TV13 on Spectrum Ch 194, Oxford Spectrum Ch. 191, Shrewsbury Cable Ch. 28 & 328, and Sutton Spectrum Ch. 194 and Verizon Ch. 29. The seven transitional deacons to be ordained priests are Deacons Michael D. Hoye, James J. Boulette, Thiago R. Ibiapina, Derek A. Mobilio, Cleber de Paula, Julio R. Granados, and Juan D. Parra. They range in ages from 27 to 43 years old. Three are from Central Mass, two are from Brazil and two are from Colombia.
Michael D. Hoye, 28 is the youngest of seven children of David and Joan Hoye. He was born in Worcester. His home parish is St. Mark in Sutton. He attended Assumption Elementary School in Millbury, Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School in Worcester and Assumption College (now University), where he studied philosophy and theology, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2016.He studied at Theological College at The Catholic University of America, then completed his studies in Rome at the Pontifical North American College and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology and is working on his licentiate in sacred theology.Following ordination, he will serve as temporary associate pastor, St. Mary, Uxbridge.
James J. Boulette, 43, son of Richard and Doris Boulette, was born in Worcester. His home parish is St. Anthony of Padua in Fitchburg. He attended Mill Swan Elementary School, Dr. Arthur F. Sullivan Middle School and South High School, all in Worcester, and finished his education at the Adult Learning Center in Worcester in 1997. He attended Quinsigamond Community College, Curry College and Assumption College (now University), earning his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Assumption in 2018. He worked in information technology at Deluxe Corporation in Groton where he was a senior technology solutions and support analyst. He received formation at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies from 2015-2018 and completed his studies at Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary.Following ordination, he will serve as associate pastor, St. Ann Parish, North Oxford, and St. Roch Parish, Oxford.
Thiago R. Ibiapina, 28 was born in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil, where his home parish was Holy Trinity in Fortaleza. He received his high school diploma from Liceu Domingos Brasileiro in 2010. From 2010-2015 he was a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Fortaleza. He earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from FaculdadeCatolica de Fortaleza in 2015 and his licentiate in philosophy from Euclides da Cunha in 2020. In 2016 he came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese and received his master of divinity degree at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore. Following ordination, he will serve as associate pastor, Annunciation Parish, Gardner.
Derek A. Mobilio, 32, son of Anthony and Michelle Mobilio, was born in Worcester. His home parish is St. Francis of Assisi in Barre.He attended Our Lady of the Angels Elementary School and, in 2008, graduated from St. Peter-Marian Central Catholic Senior High School, both in Worcester. He earned his bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and meteorology from State University of New York at Oswego in 2012, his master’s degree in statistics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2014, and his masters of education degree from Providence College in 2016. He taught mathematics and religion at St. Mary’s High School in Worcester from 2014-2016. In 2016 he entered St. John’s Seminary in Brighton where he received his bachelor’s degree in sacred theology.Following ordination, he will serve as associate pastor, Our Lady of Hope Parish, Grafton.
Cleber de Paula, 40 was born in Ipatinga, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He received his high school diploma from Escola Estadual Nilza Luzia de Souza Butta in 1999. He received a degree in philosophy in 2004 from Faculdade São Luís in Brusque, Santa Catarina, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2017 from FaculdadeÚnica in Ipatinga. He was in formation in Brazil with the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from 2002-2005 and the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians) from 2010-2014, with whom he studied theology for a year in Bogotá, Colombia. He worked as a roll grinding machine operator at a steel mill called Usiminas, a salesperson at John Paul II Catholic Bookstore, and an administrative supervisor at a party equipment rental place called Toninho Locações, all in Ipatinga. He came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese in 2017 and received his bachelor’s degree in sacred theology and a master of divinity degree at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore. Following ordination, he will serve as associate pastor, Holy Family Parish and St. Stephen Parish, Worcester.
Julio R. Granados, 29 was born in Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia.He graduated from InstitucionEducativa Distrital Pozos Colorados high school in 2009. He attended Universidad Catolica de Oriente, in Rionegro, and Seminario Nacional Cristo Sacerdote in La Ceja, from which he got a certificate in philosophy in 2013, both in Antioquia, Colombia. He was a philosophy and religious education teacher and led the pastoral program at a public school in Remolino, Magdalena, Colombia. He was a volunteer at the World Youth Day in Panama in 2019 with his parish, St. John Paul II in Southbridge. He came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese in 2017. He received his bachelor’s degree in theology and master of divinity degree at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore. Juan David Parra Rave, 27 was born in Angelopolis, Antioquia, Colombia. He attended Centro Rural Educativo Santa Rita and InstitucionEducativa San Jose, from which he got his high school diploma in 2010. He went to Seminario Mayor de la Santa Cruz and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, from which he received a philosophy degree in 2014. He did volunteer work at large food pantries called Banco de Alimentos Medellin and Saciar, where he was in charge of the selection of food. He was also involved in various missions in Colombia. In 2017 he came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese. In 2019 he began studies at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, where he received his master of divinity degree.
